My Parenting Advisor provides support to clients through virtual one-on-one sessions that are targeted to your needs, and are especially useful for families with ADHD children and teens. We use a variety of online tools so that clients and parenting coaches can communicate easily and conveniently, regardless of location. This also includes text and email check-ins for encouragement. Our approach features the following core components:
1. Needs assessment
Your parenting coach will tailor their approach to your specific situation. Our clients have children of different ages, and parents’ circumstances are unique. Your coach will carefully listen to your concerns, find out about where the struggles and successes have been, learn about your parenting values and style. With this information, you will collaborate to clarify your goals, and to create a road map for your work that will lead into weekly action plans.
2. Skill building
Your coach will help you build up your parenting toolkit. We use research tested techniques that we introduce using a step-by-step approach. These typically include identifying problem triggers and responses, using high power reinforcement systems, improving communication, fortifying consequences for misbehavior, developing predictable and structured routines, and brainstorming solutions to problems as they arise. The specific skills are customized, which is especially important for our work with families whose children experience ADHD and other psychological issues.
3. Emotional support
Parenting a challenging child can be overwhelming. Parents often sacrifice their own needs to meet those of their children. Your parenting coach will provide you with emotional support and will help you prioritize self-care. These interventions often focus on stress management, having reasonable expectations for yourself, and making sure you are drawing on your strengths and resources.
4. Rapid assistance
Several of our coaches offer rapid support when possible to help parents manage conflicts that are occurring with their children in real time. This service is provided at an extra charge, and it can be particularly useful for immediate support and guidance.
